No Foolin’ April Is Here

No foolin’ we’ve got some gems to share with you guys this month! Keep reading to find out all of the great stuff we have in store for you this month.

T-shirt Contest
Think it would be fun to design Little Bird’s next t-shirt? Now is your chance! In celebration of our 5th birthday (Yep, June 1st we turn 5!!!), we want to print up a new batch of shirts and would love for you all to design, vote, and choose what it’s going to be. The nitty gritty of the contest is as follows:

  • Design submission: now through Saturday, April 18th
  • Voting: at Little Bird Sunday, April 19th through Saturday, April 25th
  • Design will need to be in one color (though we plan to print it on different colored shirts) and can be front and back or just front.

Oh and the winner will get a 5 treatment acupass! Yay!

Liberation Acupuncture!
POCA Tech and the POCA Coop have come together to create a framework for socially engaged, socially relevant acupuncture theory. Read all about it at www.liberationacupuncture.org. The website has incredible articles, posts, and resources on the foundations of liberation acupuncture, what brought people to liberation acupuncture, and trauma informed acupuncture.

Sports Injuries
Spring is kinda, hopefully, maybe here?! A lot of us are busting at the seams to get outside and resume our various exercise and sports routines. Sadly, some of us are quickly sidelined by various injuries. We are here though to help you get up and running lickety-split. Acupuncture is great at facilitating the healing process for acute and chronic sports related injuries such has runner’s knee, plantar fascitis, sciatica, tennis and golfer’s elbow, swimmer’s shoulder, bursitis, and all sorts of various sprains and strains. We also have various patches and liniments that can be applied and help you get back to your activities pain free! Book an appointment and bounce back into your activities!

Thank You
You guys are the best at helping us get the chairs ready for the next person when you leave! It’s super helpful when you fold and put away blankets and extra pillows. It might not seem much, but it really does save us a lot of time. Placing the basket in the chair is the staff’s signal that they have checked the chair and it is ready for the next Acunapper. Please go ahead and leave the baskets on the floor after you get up.

We hope you are enjoying the expanded hours and being able to come in 7 days a week! And as always, we hope to see you soon!

Best,
Little Bird Staff

March Gladness

We are so happy that Janaye, our new acupunk, has her license in hand and we can now offer you guys a new, exciting, and expanded schedule. Plus, we’ve got a new staff member and a couple of sweet little March specials. Check out all of the fun details below!

Now Open 7 Days a Week!!!
Janaye’s official start date is Sunday, March 1st! Her regular schedule will be Wednesdays from 9am-2pm (Sara will be poking for a couple of hours midday and Suzzanne will expand her evening hours), Saturdays from 9am-2pm (Sara will switch to 1pm-6pm) and Sundays from 10am-3pm. We are so thankful that she is joining us and are really excited for you all to enjoy her fantastic treatments!

New Staff!
To help cover our expanded schedule, we are super thrilled to add to our staff the lovely Florencia! She will be running the front desk on Sundays and will fill in for the rest of the front desk staff from time to time. Please say hi and make her feel welcome!

March Special #1
We want to show how happy and appreciative we are to all of you by offering $10 treatments for returning patients ($20 for new patients) on all of Janaye’s shifts for the entire month of March! You can go online to book an appointment to welcome her to our community and experience her excellent acuskills.

March Special #2
We know it’s hard to believe that t-shirt weather is on the horizon, but March does bring daylight savings and the spring equinox. Hooray! In anticipation of more fun in the sun, we are selling our t-shirts for $10. This 1/2 off sale is good while supplies last, so make sure to snap up a t-shirt at your next appointment.

Child Friendly
Did you know both Suzzanne and Sara provide pediatric treatments?! We can give your kiddos a non-invasive (no needles!) treatment for teething pain, earaches, allergies, tummy trouble, you name it! (P.S. We never charge for kids under 5.) For the mommas and poppas, we provide treatments that allow for their hands to be free so they can feed, cuddle, and tend to their very little ones. If your sweet peas aren’t up for napping with you in the treatment room, we are happy to treat you both on the chair or sofa in the waiting area.

Allergies
It’s almost that time of year when we leave cold and flu season (fingers crossed) and enter Spring allergy season. Allergies are no fun either, but we are here with needles in hand and various herbal formulas ready to help! Pro Tip: acupuncture is more effective at keeping congestion and itchies in check if you come in before they are awful, but we can help if they already are.

We are so excited to be able to serve our community 7 days a week! We know you have all been hoping for more expanded weekend hours. So, if you are still reading this get online and book an acunap now! As always, we hope to see you soon!

Best,
Little Bird Staff

Fun Times in February

We’ve saved the best for last, so please make sure to read to the end to find out our big surprise!

Housekeeping
We have greatly appreciated your patience when we get jammed up and we like to be accommodating in return. Unfortunately though, if you are really early and we are super busy, you may have to wait a wee bit while we treat people with appointments ahead of you. We love to see people chilling out in the front office! So please feel free to get cozy with a magazine or a book, have a cup of tea, or enjoy a chat in the waiting room.

Schedule Changes
We wanted to give a heads up that we have a couple of shortened days at the end of February and beginning of March. Please note the following adjustments:

  • Thursday, February 26th: 9am-1pm
  • Friday, February 27th: 2:30pm-7pm
  • Tuesday, March 3rd: 3pm-8pm

New Art
This month we are excited to display more paintings from the lovely artist Julia Colton. Please check out her website to learn more about her and see more of her work. We will have a stack of her business cards for you to take if you are interested in contacting her about the paintings.

POCA Network
Did you know that just because you’re traveling around the U.S you don’t have to go without acupuncture?! We are a member of an awesome network of community acupuncture clinics called POCA. It is a multi-stakeholder cooperative that you can join and receive various member benefits including the waiving of new patient fees at POCA member clinics! You can look online to find a local clinic and keep getting your acunaps while away from DC. POCA is also a great resource for finding community clinics for your family and friends who aren’t locals!

New Punk!!!
It looks like our patience has paid off and after many months of looking, we are excited to have found a wonderful new acupunk to add to our Little Bird community! You will see the warm and friendly Janaye Volk during the next few weeks while she is training. Please make her feel welcome! She recently moved to Maryland from Nevada (by way of Washington) and is waiting for her DC license. As soon as it comes through, you will get the chance to be poked by her on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings. That’s right, we are going to have Sunday hours!!! We will be sure to update you all via email with Janaye’s official start date, the schedule changes and all the exciting news concerning Little Bird’s expanding schedule.

As always, we are so happy that you are part of our community. We are grateful to be able to provide lots of affordable acunaps to you all! So go book an appointment now and come in to see us!

Best,
Little Bird Staff

Happy New Year!

Where did 2014 go?! The year sure went by quickly, but it was wonderful spending it with you all! We can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for the Little Bird community. We’ve already got a couple of exciting things to share for January. Please read on to learn about them and why we have to say good-bye to our lovely Charleen.

Staff Updates
Gah! We hate to tell you that you will no longer see Charleen managing the office Friday afternoons. Alas, it looks like the rigors of grad school (going for not one but two degrees … law and social work!!!) has taken her away from us permanently. If you’re lucky though, you will see her in a chair squeezing in a cozy acunap into her oh so very busy schedule!

The good news is that you will get to see more of Emil as they will be taking over the Friday afternoon shift. Thank you Emil!!! The other good news is that Suzzanne’s husband has been healing slowly but surely and you will get to see more of her again as she will be adding a Thursday morning shift to her schedule. She will start working Thursday mornings from 9am-1pm starting January 15th. Now go on and book your first appointment in 2015! We can’t wait to see you.

Free Acupuncture Treatment Cards for New Patients!
We’re loving all of the referrals you guys have sent our way. In order to help out, we have printed up a batch of Free New Patient Acupuncture Treatment cards that you can hand out to whomever you think would benefit from a cozy acunap this winter. Starting January 2, 2015, there will be a stack of the cards at the front desk. The cards will expire March 31, 2015. Please feel free to grab a few at your next appointment. It will be first come first serve, so when they’re gone … they’re gone!

New Promo Material
In addition to the Free New Patient Acupuncture Treatment cards, we have printed up beautiful cards with cool acupuncture facts and myths! Please take a stack and hand them out to friends, family, office mates, yoga pals, or even at your favorite coffee shop. We are here because of your wonderful referrals and really appreciate your love for us!

Inclement Weather Policy
Winter is here and chances are a snow storm or two is in our future. Suzzanne and Sara both live within walking distance of the clinic, so there is no amount of snow that will get in our way of being able to open the clinic. However, we know that most of you are not so fortunate, so if the buses and Metro are not running due to snow, we will close Little Bird. If we have to close, we will call and email everyone with an appointment to notify them of the closure. We will also post it on Facebook and Twitter and the front page of our website. Your safety and well-being are very important to us. If you are unable to get to Little Bird due to the weather and we are still open, just give us a call at 202-328-1804 and let us know!

Finally, we wanted to let you know that Little Bird delivered 9,746 affordable acupuncture treatments in 2014. This has been our biggest year yet, and we are really hoping to give even more in 2015. Thank you all so very much and we can’t wait to help you with all of your New Year’s resolutions!

Best,
Little Bird Staff
